Christmas is here! Good food is upon us and here is an easy and cheap mincemeat idea for the table.

1 packet of ready roll puff pastry

1x 400g jar of mincemeat

1 egg beaten

Pre-heat oven to 210c (gas 7).

Lightly flour a work surface then unwrap the pastry. Get a 9 inch dinner plate and make sure you will be able to cut two rounds of pastry out, if not then slightly roll out the pastry until you can. Cut two rounds out then place one on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Spread the mincemeat over the one on the baking tray leaving a 1/2cm gap around the edge. Place the other one on top then brush around the edge with the beaten egg. Place the other pastry round on top and nip slightly around the edges to seal. Place a 1cm pastry cutter in the middle (this is just a guide so don’t push it down). Cut the pastry into quarters up to the pastry cutter in the middle to leave a gap in the middle and then cut them quarters in half then cut them in half like you do a pizza but leaving the gap in the middle (see pictures below). Now carefully take one of the pieces and twist it over twice then place back down and repeat until you have done them all. Brush with the beaten egg then into the oven of the middle shelf to cook. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and risen.
